New Media

I think that the definition of new media varies from source to source so I decided to see what was out there and here are some of the definitions that I came up with:

-For all of those Wikipedia fans:
New media is a term meant to encompass the emergence of digital, computerized, or networked information and communication technologies in the later part of the 20th century.
Most technologies described as “new media” are digital, often having characteristics of being manipulatable, networkable, dense, compressible, and impartial.

-A blogger, dpandkp’s view:
I personally do not think there is much of anything new about what a lot of people consider new media. To me, new is a term used to describe something that hasn’t been conceived that comes into existence all of a sudden.

-Media Smart (a parents site Glossary) defines it simply as:
Online and digital ways of receiving information.

-Warwick’s web page defines it as:
New means, specifically electronic means of mass communication considered collectively (Oxford English Dictionary, 2003). Examples of new media include Internet, mobile devices, electronic games, blogs and podcasting.

Dictionary:
–noun
developing usually electronic forms of media regarded as being experimental.

And the list could go on forever with all the sites out there. I think that the definition of new media is still being formed but will always be in a state of change and it is up to the individual to decide.
I feel that new media is any way of communicating that is new and isincorporated in with modern technology (my opinion is still being formed).
