I Found the editing in this particularly striking, not just because of the images used but also how well they fit with Miller’s story. Some of the specific things that I noticed were:
-The juxtaposition of images from the war and at home creating a stark contrast
-The use of a black screen to build tension and provide pauses between sections of the story
-The use of images that contrasted with what Miller was saying, like the wedding photos when he was talking about his mixed feelings.
-The use of a famous picture (the Marlboro marine) to tell a much deeper and complex story.
-The mix of quick cuts between different photos and the slow transition between sequenced photos helped provide scene breaks between different sections
I too came across the use of the black screen to build tension and it works.
I agree. I liked the juxtaposition of images and the use of the black screen.
